Suwon Convention Center in Gwanggyo is a multi-purpose venue designed to accommodate large-scale conventions and events with a capacity of up to 3,000 in its main hall. Built by Hanwha Corporation’s Engineering & Construction Division, it offers a total area of approximately 3,040 m² for various gatherings, including exhibitions, concerts, and opening ceremonies. Suwon Convention Center utilizes a geothermal heat pump with thermal storage to optimize energy usage and lower operating costs. During off-peak hours (11 PM to 9 AM), the heat pump produces chilled or heated water and stores it in dedicated tanks. Once mid-range and peak demand periods begin, the center draws on this stored energy to supply cooling or heating, reducing reliance on costly daytime electricity. This approach not only decreases operational expenses but also contributes to a more balanced energy grid, highlighting the center’s commitment to sustainable building operations. Additionally, the facility operates a smart grid station that integrates information technology into the existing power network, enabling two-way, real-time data exchange between energy providers and consumers. This setup optimizes energy distribution and efficiency, aligning with local sustainability goals. Further underscoring its green credentials, Suwon Convention Center has installed 312 solar modules on the rooftop. These panels convert sunlight into electricity during the day, powering general electric loads and charging stations for electric vehicles. This approach not only helps reduce operating expenses but also significantly cuts carbon emissions, contributing to environmental protection efforts.
